Multi Combination truck training - NorthBound Commercial Training

Multi Combination (MC)

The highest heavy vehicle licence you can obtain - marking you as an elite professional in the transport industry.

What is a Multi Combination (MC) Licence?

A Multi Combination (MC) licence authorises you to drive any heavy combination vehicle, including a prime mover with two or more trailers. This is the licence required to operate B-doubles, which are a common sight on our highways, and the iconic road trains that are essential to transport in regional and remote Australia.

An MC licence is the key to unlocking the highest-paying and most respected driving roles in the country.

Why Trust NorthBound with Your MC Training?

As a locally owned and operated business in Port Lincoln, we are committed to providing the highest quality driver training to the Eyre Peninsula community. Our instructors are seasoned professionals with extensive experience in the transport industry. They will provide you with the practical, real-world skills and knowledge you need to safely and confidently handle the unique challenges of driving a multi-combination vehicle.

Prerequisites for an MC Licence

To be eligible to apply for a Multi Combination licence in South Australia, you must:

  • Have held a Heavy Rigid (HR) or Heavy Combination (HC) licence for at least one year
  • Be at least 20 years of age
  • Pass a practical driving test in an MC vehicle with an authorised examiner

Important: If you are upgrading from an HR licence, an HC assessment drive will be required before commencing the MC course. For those who don't meet the minimum driving experience, the MC Licence Program offers an alternative pathway to obtaining your licence.

Our Comprehensive MC Training Program

We deliver our MC training in accordance with the nationally recognised Competency Based Training & Assessment (CBT&A) framework, using the official South Australian Government trainee guides. This ensures you receive a thorough and standardised education.

We estimate that most students will require approximately 12 hours of training to upgrade from an HC to an MC licence, and 22 hours to upgrade from an HR to an MC licence.

We provide training in our modern, industry-standard multi-combination vehicles, ensuring you learn on the same type of equipment you will be operating in the workforce.

Training Information

All training is conducted using the South Australian Government Multi Combination CBT&A Trainee Guide.
