Your gateway to driving some of the most impressive rigs on the road - opening up a world of opportunities in long-haul and specialised transport.
A Heavy Combination (HC) licence allows you to drive a prime mover with a single semi-trailer, or a heavy rigid vehicle towing a trailer with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) greater than 9 tonnes. This is the quintessential "semi-trailer" licence and is a vital qualification for a huge range of transport and logistics roles across Australia.
As a locally owned and operated business in Port Lincoln, we are deeply invested in the success of our students and the Eyre Peninsula community. Our instructors are seasoned industry professionals who bring a wealth of real-world experience to their teaching. We focus on practical, high-quality training that prepares you for the demands of the road, ensuring you are not just licensed, but truly prepared for your career.
To be eligible to apply for a Heavy Combination licence in South Australia, you must:
Fast-Track Option: For those looking to fast-track their career, a Training-In-Lieu-of-Experience (TILE) course is available for drivers who have held a car licence for at least two years.
We offer training for both unrestricted (manual) and automatic HC licences. To gain an unrestricted HC licence, you will need to master the non-synchromesh "Roadranger" gearbox, a skill that is highly valued in the industry.
Special Note: If you hold an unrestricted HR licence, you can upgrade to an HC licence in an automatic vehicle and still receive an unrestricted HC licence. Our experienced instructors will guide you through the intricacies of either transmission, ensuring you are a competent and confident operator.
We deliver our HC training in line with the nationally recognised Competency Based Training & Assessment (CBT&A) framework, using the official South Australian Government trainee guides. This ensures a comprehensive and standardised learning experience.
We estimate that most students will require approximately 21 hours of training to achieve competency in a manual gearbox HC vehicle, and approximately 15 hours for an automatic HC vehicle.
We provide the option of training in our modern, industry-standard prime movers, or in your own vehicle, provided it meets all government safety and registration requirements.
All training is conducted using the South Australian Government Heavy Rigid/Heavy Combination CBT&A Trainee Guide.
